Shirley Dungan Kheel Memorial Lecture

Dr. Bruno Lunenfeld, Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Life Sciences, Bar-llan University, and Ramat Gan, Israel, was the Shirley Dungan Kheel Memorial Lecturer at the Jones Institute on March 29, 2012.  Dr. Lunenfeld delivered a lecture entitled, "Infertility, Ovulation Induction, Treatments and the Ovarian and Endometrial Cancers: 40 Years of Follow Up".

Dr. Lunenfeld is President of the International Society for the Study of the Aging Male, General Secretary of The Asian-Pacific Initiative on Reproductive Endocrinology, Treasurer of the International Society of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Editor of The Aging Male, a journal devoted to men's health and aging. Dr. Lunenfeld is best known for his pioneering work in human reproduction.  After describing the clinical use of hMG in men and women in 1960, his group was the first to achieve a pregnancy with hMG in 1961, demonstrated binding of hCG to LH receptors in theca cells in 1967 and were the first to induce ovulation followed by pregnancy with GnRH in an hMG-stimulated cycle in 1975. His research interests pertain to the physiology and pathology of male and female reproduction and include stimulators, modulators and regulators of sex steroids, spermatogenesis, spermiogenesis, folliculogenesis and ovulation, and the mechanism of action of gonadotrophins, GnRH and growth factors on gene expression and steroidogenesis.

José Horcajadas, PhD, Associate Professor at the University Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla, Spain spent 3 days at The Jones Institute as The Jones/Andrews Scholar in Reproductive Medicine.  Dr. Horcajadas is an expert in translational research with emphasis on human implantation.  He has numerous publications in high-impact peer reviewed journals including The Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. For the pat 3 years Dr. Horcajadas has been an active collaborator ni the development of a three-dimensional endometrial culture system at The Jones Institute, which has resulted in several significant publications and presentations.

 
After Ten Years, "The Kneeling Fireman" Finds a Home at Emigrant's Midtown Headquarters PDF Print E-mail

FDNY, Port Authority Police and other dignitaries joined Emigrant CEO Howard P. Milstein to dedicate a statue that was stranded at JFK on 9/11; “The Kneeling Fireman” becomes the only Midtown Manhattan memorial to all first responders and victims of terrorist attacks.

After a decade-long journey, “The Kneeling Fireman” has found a home. (photo credit PR Newswire).

 

The dramatic statue of a firefighter on bended knee was dedicated September 22, 2011 at its new home: the 43rd Street headquarters of Emigrant Savings Bank. Bound for Missouri, it had been stuck at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, then was presented as a gift to New York City.
